fedora 29 install hesitation
I've been using Fedora at work & now at home since Fedora 11 and been mostly keeping abreast of current releases. At least keeping within the window of currently supported releases, but I am having apprehensions about installing fedora 29. I upgraded to F28 in October last year and attempted an upgrade to F29 directly after but after download it failed due to some conflict or other. (As an aside is there any way to query the dnf history file to get details on failed updates?) At the time I just put the upgrade on hold assuming that the issues would be worked out. Since that time, I've been monitoring these pages, and it seems that there are a significant amount of problems reported around the F29 release. More so than I remember with other releases.I am nervous. Am I being overly cautious here? The life cycle on Fedora 28 will come to an end with the release of F30 I think in April. How confident can I be of an upgrade without problems. Is there a statistic on how robust each release has been? If so where can I find it?
There were some dependency conflicts in the week leading up to the official release end of October 2018. That was quickly solved shortly after.
Yes. That was the trouble. It was definitely a dependency problem. I don't remember what packages were causing the upgrade to fail though. Glad to hear that it was resolved. I will retry the upgrade in a couple of weeks and keep my fingers crossed that none of the other problems reported here complicate my life. Thanks for the reassurances. If I have trouble with it, I will document them here.
