missing print filter

Epson stylus pro 3880 was working under Fedora 28 using the cups gutenburg simplified driver. I haven't used it since I upgraded to Fedora 29. A message reports that a filter is missing when files are sent to the printer, including the test page. I have re-installed the printer but the same error occurs.

please open a bugreport at https://bugzilla.redhat.com, that should not happen at all.

The problem did NOT occur when I installed the same printer to my laptop (also running Fedora 29). But that is a new installation of Fedora 29, not an upgrade. It automatically found a driver for the printer when connected, which worked and printed.

I installed system config printer following the instructions I found at https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to... when I used system-config-printer from the terminal it installed the printer, using the cups gutenburg simplified driver. The printer now works.
