Is sssd supposed to be installed on a typical workstation, and if so how is it to be configured?

The following lines are from journalctl at the time of the Fedora upgrade:

[sss_cache] [confdb_get_domains] (0x0010): No domains configured, fatal error!
Could not open available domains
usermod: sss_cache exited with status 2
usermod: Failed to flush the sssd cache.

Is this a problem?

Fedora's documentation includes instructions on clearing cache with sudo sss_cache -E but that results in an error with the same first two lines as above.

Another answer suggests uninstalling sssd.
