Hello, I have set up a Fedora 29 Server that I will be using as a file server in a Windows 7 workgroup. I can access the server if i manually connect, but the server does not appear in the network browser.

Here are some clips of my settings:

firewall-cmd --list-services

cockpit dhcpv6-client samba ssh

firewall-cmd --list-ports

137-138/udp

smb.conf [global] workgroup = AVB-NET netbios name = AVB-SRV-2 security = user name resolve order = bcast host browsable = yes wins support = yes local master = yes preferred master = yes

passdb backend = tdbsam
printing = cups
printcap name = cups
load printers = yes
cups options = raw

[public] comment = Public Stuff path = /home/avb browsable = yes public = yes writable = yes printable = yes write list = +staff

The network browser (i.e. file manager) has been unable to browse SMB shares for quite some time due to an open bug. See this similar post.

AFAIK, if you change samba configuration and set client max protocol to NT1, browsing will work again. But you might have problems connecting to some newer Windows machines.

Thanks for the advice. I added "client max protocol = NT1" to my smb.config file, restarted the service, but no luck. I still do not see it in the network.
