Black Install screen on Lenovo P72 Nvdia P2000 graphics card

I am trying to install Fedora 29 on a Lenovo P72 with a nvdia P2000 graphics card.

This machine is "Red Hat" certified, so I had hoped everything would work out of the box.

'Hope' is a four letter word.

I tried the straight install and it stopped dead on Gnome Manager.

I tried to load in Basic Graphics mode 'nomodeset', and after all the text goes away, I get a black screen. Nothing.

I tried nouveau.nomodeset=0. Black Screen.

I entered 3 at the end of the line and I got an login screen. It's a fresh install, so what is the username and password? I tried admin/admin and it failed.

I have turned OFF Secure Boot.

Any advice is appreciated.

first, try replacing nouveau.nomodeset=0 with nouveau.modeset=0 . If that does not resolve the problem . suggest you try a Spin (x64 version specifically) which uses a different desktop environment, such as xfce https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/29/Spins. Please come back here and update your question with the result.

Here is the answer.

ENSURE that that your BIOS is 1.18 better. Older BIOSes had an issue with black screen bricking.
In the BIOS, set the DISPLAY GRAPHICS from HYBRID to DISCREET.
Install Fedora 29 using the default installer. (I'll be honest, my jaw nearly hit the floor when I saw the graphical installer.)
Enjoy Fedora!

This post is being written in my P72 using Fedora (and yes, I even installed the Nvidia driver).

when I say "default installer" I simply mean the first menu that comes up when you boot to the USB installer image.

I installed the Nvidia driver using the excellent instructions here: https://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2015/fedora-nvidia-guide/

Im in the same boat, see my thread for additional information. If i get my machine to work with Fedora29 (KDE) i will let you know, maybe i can help you out bc its the same problem ?!

IF i remember right, i guess the standard Login is "root" without a Password
