Following on from my NAS Western Digital MY BOOK not being recognized on my system I decided to try it via USB, thinkin gthat would be simple enough - But NO

It is a USB connection via a USB 3 cable, obviously but not recognised in FILES.. I did a " lsusb " to see if it was picked up but nothing, everything except the Disk is listed

Any ideas ? How can I pick up a USB device that is not listed ? Is it possible even ?

p.s. NEVER buy a Wesrtern Digital My book !!!!

There are a bunch of different submodels of My Books, and they all behave differently. First thing is whether the kernel even sees the device being attached. You can use dmesg to check. Bit more clear is to use sudo journalctl -fk and then plug in the drive and see live what the kernel's reaction is. If it sees something, next is sudo blkid to see if libblkid recognizes the partition map and signatures on the partitions.

SO when I did " sudo journalctl -fk " and then connected the USB cable, the cursor stopped flashing for a little while and then started again...perhaps 10 seconds... but nothing came up , not text..just started flashing again.....I tried the lsblk to chwck but nothing new and nothin showed up under sudo blkid
