No intel drivers in xorg.conf.d - VESA fallback ?
Hi, Im trying to run Fedora 20 on an HP Probook 440 G3 ( I know I should install something new such as F28, but I need to run F20 to support development tied to RHEL 7 on gcc 4.8.3 ). Problem is I can't adjust the brightness/backlight of the display and it runs at full brightness causing fatigue when working for long. I've posted this question asking why there's no control to change the brightness on the GUI (in the top righ logout menu) or why the Fn buttons do not work to control brightness. I have done all the suggestion posted here to change boot options and it still fails to show me the controls on screen or work with Fn keys. I posted a new question and @felthat suggested that XOrg might not be loading the Intel driver if the hardware is new, since I fail to find a file for Intel inside /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/. I checked the /var/log/Xorg.0.log and could find some traces about VESA.
In such a situation how can I get the proper drivers loaded and get the brightness/backlight controls back ?
P.S. Also I notice that the graphics run a little slow or glitchy and flickering compared to how I've seen it work on Ubuntu on GNOME3 - maybe the graphics drivers are really missing here ?
Have you looked at the boot log? It could well have error messages about missing drivers or incompatible configuration settings.
