install fedora on my passport ultra usb disk

asked 2018-05-21 17:59:59 -0600

Seem to not have discovered the magic of installing Fedora 28 on a usb my passport ultra disk. I have tried mediawriter which gives no errors but the disk is not bootable. It creates 3 partitions which two are empty.

I have also tried livecd-iso-to-disk which creates one partion appears to put part of the boot partition into it and then gives the long reported error of No BOOT *.EFI found in eltorito image. EFI will not boot.

Third approach was to dd live image to drive which also does not boot.

Goal is to have a drive that I can dd running systems drive images to for a level of recovery. Boot from the usb drive and do a dd restore once hardware is repaired.

You should get a small-ish usb memory-stick. Four gig would do nicely, anything bigger is an overkill. Then use MediaWriter to transfer the iso image to that memory-stick.

You then boot from the memory-stick and then connect your passport ultra usb disk. You can then run the real OS installation and select your passport ultra usb disk as the disk you want to install Fedora on.
