Firefox 59 "unstable" on Fedora 28?

Installed Fedora 28 on my day-to-day laptop. Pretty good working experience so far, except for Firefox 59 which seems to have certain issues:

  • Very often, when opening a new tab and trying to either directly enter an URL or use the URL bar with search terms, the browser would complain that "this tab has crashed". This will happen once or twice until the URL finally loads correctly. Haven't really found a pattern when this happens.
  • I'm an excessive user and, in Fedoras Firefox 59, the player refuses to work. Workaround, right now, is to use epiphany on GNOME just for that. Strangely enough, the player will ask me whether I want to allow Flash for this page, but doing so doesn't change anything. In fact, not even globally enabling Flash does have any effect here it seems.

I am unsure how much these problems relate to Fedora but I'm running the same version of Firefox on an Ubuntu desktop at home without any of these issues. Likewise, even starting over with a completely new and "clean" Firefox profile (no addons, default configuration) didn't change anything about this behaviour. I see, however, that Fedoras Firefox is "somehow different" also because I know that, whenever I re-start it, it would always end up opening a Fedora news website which is neither my starting page or any tab I chose to keep open.

Is there anything I can do to make Firefox work as intended? Any more info I can provide to help tracking this down?

Thanks in advance, Kristian

Player works fine for me on Firefox (certainly no flash installed). You must be missing a codec. Check here:

Nope, unfortunately not. :( The "play" button won't work or report any error. Disabled Flash for but still have it installed (needed for VMWare ESXi browser console. :|). Any ideas what could be causing this?

This is a known issue which is fixed in Firefox 60 which is out very soon. Certain pages have been identified to make Firefox 59 (shipping in Fedora 28 on release day) crash. You can read more in the bug linked above. Firefox 60 should resolve this, and we will try to make it reach stable updates as soon as possible.
