hello experts and contributors of all kind, welcome to my problematic world.

system fedora 27, samsung printer scx-4655fn

l have installed the printer drivers from HP website.
i see the printer 'lsusb'.
after general update i got a message telling me that another driver was required.
the printer is scanning properly.
after print test fedora tells that the print job is over but nothing has been printed
the printer worked fine on windows.4 days ago

l feel like a passenger, lost in the vastness of my own ignorance, en route to homestead2 with 50 years to go, and no aurora lane to distract me from my non-printing printer.

please HELP

What was the exact message about requiring another driver during update?

In Fedora there is open source splix driver. If your printed isn't supported you can try a similar model.

thanks fcomida for your contribution but i am new in linux system, so compiling stuff with other stuff is out of my reach

Q: does fcomida stand for french food?

Notingh to be compiled, just: sudo dnf install splix. I always thought the etymology of the comida surname was spanish and indeed comida means food in spanish. I recently found out that instead it has byzantine origins. Dante Alighieri put a Bishop Gomita in hell (inferno). Gomita, Comita and eventually Comida are all variants of this byzantine surname.

i had downloaded the source file from the splix site, so sure the dnf way is easier but still can't find the right driver, the splix trick doesn't seem to work, it's like nothing happened(i did uninstall the hp driver first).

but the more i think about it the more i wonder about why the official driver doesn't work the scanner work i have a laptop with windows installed and the printer and scanner work, so it is not an issue with the printer so it is a big and unreachable HP corporation issue

hello homestead1,

my problematic world is not problematic anymore i found on that site(www.bchemnet.com), a copy of a previous version of the much needed driver for my multifunction printer samsung SCX-4655fn. name uld.1.00.37

my printer now print and scan, wonderful,wonderful

so i followed those step to install it

i uninstalled the driver(uld.1.00.39) with (the uninstall.sh file from uld.1.00.37)
i removed printer from the device manager
i installed the driver from www.bchemnet.com-uld.1.00.37
i added a new printer in the device manager which has detected mine straight away and select the driver automatically
then i printed the test page and with an english phlegm(very unusual for a french man) i looked at this beautifully printed page and barely smile like everything is back to normal(whatever that word means)

homestead1 has given me a sign ...so exciting

no errors while installing drivers

about the message if it has been recorded somewhere i could tell you but i had only a glimpse at it but nothing technical just that the system couldn't find a driver for my printer with a link to software manager which in turn couldn't locate a specific driver

so i went to the printer config and fedora is using a generic text-only driver and i couldn't find the specific one for my printer

i found on the web older version of the specific driver but after installation i tried a print test and it worked just to print to use the right driver

hope this message could illuminate your mind to provide me with a solution
