fedora 28:how to set up root password

I installed fedora 28 Beta on base ubuntu machine with virtual machine manager.Duribg the installation process it did not asked for root setting password.I came to know that in fedora 28 i can do root with sudo with the same user password ,but how can i set a different root password.Also how can i ssh from base(ubuntu) to fedora(virtuall) machine with root.I have already set up my sshd_config file with PermitRootLogin Yes.

sudo -i

Now you are in a root console. There you can run

passwd

to change root's password.

Btw, I guess you can still setup a root password during install

No, actually. No option to setup a user or a root password until after install on f28.

The new Fedora 28 doesn't ask you to set a root password.

But your answer is the CAT'S PAJAMAS! as it works like a champ.

sudo passwd works too.

Fedora 28 does NOT ask you to set the root password. It is in fact, not set. When you set up your initial account you get sudo rights. This allows you to create a password for root if you really want/need it.

When you install Fedora, anaconda asks you to set the root password. Until recently, I didn't know that it allowed you to continue without setting it. To answer your second question, yes, you can log in as root with that setting, but it's a major security hole if the virtual machine has access to the Internet.

Apparently, that's not the case anymore since Fedora 28. After first login, gnome-initial-setupshould pop up and let you create a user. https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Change...

This is better than Ubuntu where sudo complains you're not in the sudoers list.
