When I follow the instructions from here to install the driver for my wifi adapter (MediaTek MT7630E) on my Fedora 27 kernel 4.15.9-300.fc27.x86_64, my laptop freezes (mouse does not move anymore and keyboard unresponsive), and I have to use the power button to power off the laptop. When I power on the laptop, the wifi has not been installed.

It seems that building/compilation of the driver works, but the installation causes the laptop to freeze/hang.

Previously, I was able to install the wifi driver for Fedora 27 kernel 4.13.9-300.fc27.x8664 using the instructions from the same link above. When I upgraded to kernel 4.15.9-300.fc27.x8664 (sudo dnf update), however, the wifi disappeared, and when I tried to install the wifi driver, the installation causes the laptop to freeze.

Would anyone know what I can do?

I think I figured it out. Need to disable secure boot. Sometimes disabling of secure boot may not have been done properly. For my laptop (Asus K555L), it seems that the mokutil option for disabling the secure boot works best. See answer of Pilot6 here on how to use mokutil to disable secure boot. When secure boot is disabled properly, then freezing of the laptop did not happen anymore during driver installation.
