Use Fedora's hplip, it's dependencies will be automatically resolved upon installation and updates will be installed with the rest of system updates. It's easier, more convenient and better tested.

I have a brother printer hl2270, installed on Fedora 27 and installed on the Fedora 28 compose. My printer has stopped working around the same time (around March 4 or march 5) The problem is only with GNOME.

It is still broken, after a Gnome 3.28 upgrade

My printer does work with KDE versions of Fedora and fully works with SUSE Tumbleweed Gnome Linux

Have you tried install HPLIP from this link? Maybe that helps you.

Don't install drivers from vendors if they are available (and functional) in Fedoras repo! sudo dnf install hplip will do the trick

If your printing stop working after the software update then follow these guidelines to fix this issue.

  1. Firstly check your printer is updated with the latest version or not.
  2. If it is updated with the latest version then you need to install the HP printer driver because sometimes driver may be corrupt.
  3. Restart your printer and try to print.

For more help, you can contact HP printer support team.
