F27 and nvidia video card

I recently replaced my motherboard, CPU and RAM but retained my nvidia video card. I installed F27 on the new system, migrating user account/home from the old set up (also using F27). I went ahead and installed the rpmfusion nvidia rpms and ran into a number of problems: frequent lock ups, problematic boot problems, variable GUI performance. When I removed the rpmfusion packages, the system became very stable. Performance (in terms of FPS at least) seemed to be equivalent.

Are the nvidia drivers still recommended over nouveau for nvdia cards?

I run GTX 970 4Gig on fedora 27 with proprietary 387.34 drivers. If you need to see how to install proprietary, let me know.

It's a mixed bag, honestly. Some people find that Nouveau runs much better on their system while some find that the proprietary drivers do very well. Neither can really impact your system in a permanent way; thus, I'd suggest that you try both and pick whichever works better for you based on what you need your system to do.

For me, I find that the proprietary drivers have worked better.

I believe the nouveau driver mostly works. I have never had much luck with the RPMFusion NVIDIA solution. There are a couple alternatives though. Head over to either of the links below. These have both worked for me. The only exception is some updates break the driver so you will be repeating this process. If you get stuck let me know.

https://www.if-not-true-then-false.co... - Uses the native driver from NVIDIA and installs fine.

If the nouveau drivers work for you, then I would recommend using them. The proprietary drivers from rpmfusion are mostly only for if nouveau doesn't work.
