F27 Dell XPS 13 (9360) Coil Whine
I have a Dell XPS 9360 (i7 8550u, 16GB, 512NVMe) and I have coil whine under fedora (27). I understand that this is not specifically a fedora issue, but I didn't know where else to post this. I believe that the issue is fixed under the newest Realtek HD Audio driver for windows, but the issue is not resolved under linux. Does anyone know when a driver will be merged into the kernel, or has it been already? I am running kernel 4.13.16-302 (I don't know how to update the kernel)
Coil whine is a known problem of these models, as it is for my case HP Spectre x360. I believe that, at least for my case, they provide several BIOS updates to solve it, in windows. To be honest, I don't know if it is driver issues. However, the last kernel version, i.e. 4.14, is in F27 repositories. So, you will be prompted to update through software center any time soon, or you can just manually run in terminal
sudo dnf update --refresh
Ok I updated my kernel and my BIOS (also chipset). It doesn't seem to fix the issue although I think a Realtek HD Audio driver update may solve it in windows.
