Upgrade from F25 to F26 fails on boot, reboots normally

To be honest I'm not the most linux-savvy individual around, so please feel free to assume the worst here.

After following the upgrade guide, running sudo dnf system-upgrade download --refresh --releasever=26, and then sudo dnf system-upgrade reboot, my system reboots and starts performing the upgrade. However, it immideatly fails, and reboots over again, though without upgrading this time.

I tried pressing escape during the upgrade animation to see the error messages, and they went by so fast I could hardly read anything. I got one repeating message saying

Command failed.
Kernel not configured for semaphores (System V IPC). Not using udev synchronisation code.
device-mapper: remove ioctl on fedora-root failed: Device or resource busy

but this seems to be related to some other problem.

I initially tried upgrading straight to 27, but ran into still other problems that wouldn't even let me run the reboot command. There might be a million things wrong here, so how do I find out how to fix it?

Those errors might occur from not running as root: Did the sudo part fail?
