I searched but could not find an answer to this question post-Fedora 27. I have TopIcons Plus installed, and it functions properly for another application. But not Dropbox. Anyone know how to fix?

@davidva, I'm not sure what you are saying. That extension (Activities Configurator) appears to deal with the Activities button on the top panel. I don't see where it adds panel indicators for apps like Dropbox or Mailspring. Am I missing something.

Thanks for the suggested extension: gnome-shell-extension-appindicator. It fixes the Dropbox issue.

That said, it doesn't work for Mailspring, so I need to have both it and TopIcons Plus installed at the same time. Oh well.
