I tried upgrading from 25 directly to 27 and failed - how can I recover data?

I tried updating from 25 directly to 27 and after:

sudo dnf system-upgrade reboot

it restarted and hanged somewhere.

Now I'm stuck with this screen: https://imgur.com/a/kssWj

I tried upgrading from 25 to 27 directly because a colleague assured me he did the same and it work.

First question: is this kind of upgrade available in Fedora? Or it's more likely that he had 26 and thought that he had 25?

I can't access the command line. I tried editing the grub file at startup by adding a 3 as the last argument to the linux command - didn't work.

Second question: can I recover the system from here? Or at least recover the data from the hard disk? (hard disk is encrypted)

Have you tried Ctrl+Alt+F3 (or any F-key) to switch to a terminal? Have you by chance set up a ssh server on the broken machine?

Answer to first question: Yes, this kind of upgrade is available in Fedora for 1 month after release of the new version so it should work for you and I successfully upgraded from 25 to 27. (I had minor problems with selinux and missing status icons but I don't know if this was related to skipping 26.)

To the second question: I'm not sure. I have no experience with encrypted harddrives but I recovered broken systems a few times so there might be a way but it will most likely take some time and patience.

Thanks! I did manage to acces the encrypted disk with Fedora Live CD. Just using the UI by opening Files and then going to "Other Location" I could see the hard disk.

Nothing but problems:

Fedora Forum login fails because of old membership with obsolete email and forgotton PW. System says username in use, but recovery associated with @sbcglobal which has cancelled. (Catch 22 problem; can't login to fix login)
Tried to install f25-f26 upgrade from notification. F26 appeared to install - immediately got 'F27 available' notification but f26 did not show up on boot selector (GRUB2) showed only f25. (dual boot/Win10). Neither notification appears in f25.
