acer e5-521 F26 keyboard issues

asked 2017-10-31 10:12:57 -0500

Hi everyone, First of all, I kind of newbie here and I don't know how much information is necessary and my english isn't very good, but I googled a lot before make this question with non result. I have an Acer laptop E5-521G -AMD A6 6310 Radeon R5- running Fedora 26 with kernel 4.13.9 UEFI -I upgraded the whole system before making any question- and the keyboard have randoms errors, this also happend with Debian Stretch.

First the shifts key doesn't work -none of both- and sometimes ctrl keys neither. But after a few minutes ctrls keys start working magically. This append runing on battery and with AC plugged on. Also there is some error in dmesg message that I can't find a solution.

I have blacklisted acer-wmi and some changes in grub.cfg

GRUB_TIMEOUT=5
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR="$(sed 's, release .*$,,g' /etc/system-release)"
GRUB_DEFAULT=0
GRUB_DISABLE_SUBMENU=true
GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT="console"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="rd.lvm.lv=fedora_jota-debian/root elevator=deadline rhgb quiet radeon.dpm=1 amdgpu.cik_support=1"
GRUB_DISABLE_RECOVERY="true"

I already try to change keyboard setting and distribution withour any major fix. Any idea is welcome. Thanks in advance

just googled somewhat....:

some guys recommend bios update.

if I read your provided info's correct I guess you have more then just keyboard problems.

regarding "Hardware name: Acer Aspire E5-521G/Larne, BIOS V1.01 05/27/2014" there is one BIOS update:

https://www.acer.com/ac/de/DE/content/support-product/5402?b=1

!!! please double check if the BIOS in the link above is the right one for your box !!!

P.S.
I got a "Acer Aspire E5-574-525M".
no keyboard problems so far, but it doesn't boot each kernel error-free ...
