I was compiling something and came across this error "fatal error: alsa/asoundlib.h: No such file or directory

#include <alsa/asoundlib.h>" I looked around some and find the alsa-lib package and ran the install command, but got this message back "Last metadata expiration check: 0:26:11 ago on Thu 14 Sep 2017 04:04:15 PM EDT.
Package alsa-lib-1.1.4.1-1.fc26.x86_64 is already installed, skipping.
Package alsa-lib-1.1.4.1-1.fc26.i686 is already installed, skipping.
Dependencies resolved.
Nothing to do.
Complete!"

What am I missing? To me it looks like I should have the file, but do not. I'm fairly new to both Fedora and Linux as a whole so any tips will be really helpful.

To find what you are missing, run this command

dnf provides '*/alsa/asoundlib.h'

This will find for you the package you need to install, in this case that would be alsa-lib-devel, The alsa-lib provides only the runtime library, and you will need the corresponding -devel to provide the development files.
