Problems booting up after kernel upgrade and graphics driver change.

I recently did an update through yum which updated my kernel to 3.5.5-2, after doing so I also tried to install nvidia proprietary drivers and ran the command:

nvidia-xconfig

I then went on to reboot and found out I could no longer do so.

After trying to troubleshoot the problem and failing to find a solution I then tried to revert to my intel hd 4000 graphics card so I uninstalled the propietary drivers and remade xorg.conf with the command:

Xorg :1 -configure

This didn't work and my system freezes on startup before the login prompt appears, I can still see and move the mouse around and open a terminal. What could my problem be?
