I'm running F17 3.3.4-5.fc17.x86_64. Whenever I try to suspend or put my box into hibernate, it locks up and I'm unable to use it.

The error message includes font file = true.

Any ideas as to what my problem is?

F17 installer has a bug that puts a wrong value on the kernel parameter SYSFONT.

Change the string "SYSFONT=True" in the file /etc/default/grub info "SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun16" and run grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

That, however, might not fix the problem with hibernation and suspend.
