Fedora 25 install from LiveOS on usb fails with "boot loader install failed"
I'm trying to install Fedora 25 alongside a pre-existing Windows 10 install. I am trying to install them to both share one /boot/efi partition (as that is what all guides seem to recommend), but I'm willing to try something else. / is being created on the same GPT-partitioned SSD as Windows 10, and /home and swap are being created on a GPT-partitioned 3 TB drive that already has a 2 TiB NTFS partition.
With manual partitioning selected, I am greeted with a 'New Fedora 25 Installation' with no partitions or mount points, and an 'Unknown' with 5 partitions including the EFI System Partition (sdb2).
I select the efi system partition and set the mount point to /boot/efi, and set up the rest of my partitions with / on the SSD and /home and swap on the LVM volume group 'fedora', which is only on the 3TB HD and not on the SSD.
I set my root password and create my user, and then I wait a bit and get a dialog box telling me "The following error occured while installing the boot loader. The system will not be bootable. Would you like to ignore this and continue with installation? boot loader install failed".
From there I say 'No' and Anaconda stops responding, which while probably an issue, is not the issue I'm having.
I would like to get Fedora working alongside Windows, booting in UEFI mode. I'm willing to accept other solutions than the method I was trying trying, but I'd prefer to have things set up the 'correct' way, whatever that may be.
anaconda.log
anaconda-tb-f4d1a8ed I had to append .txt to the filename to get google drive to recognize it as a text file and not a binary file.
So for some reason this is not my actual question. my actual question is 106288 (not 106287) and is still awaiting moderation. Not sure why there is a half-finished post with no images or logs attached. Editing this one...
All posts, comments and answers by new users need to be approved by a moderator. As moderators are all volunteers, posts have to wait until a moderator happens to visit and check the moderation queue. I'm sorry that it took so long, but depending on when you post, and what part of the world you live in, it can easily take several hours. I know how hard it is to be patient when you have an urgent issue, but we're doing the best we can to keep the wait times short.
That's not the issue, though. The issue is that unless I'm the one who posted this one separately from the other (which I probably am, and in which case editing this one was the right choice), there was a publicly viewable half-complete question that cuts off in the middle of a sentence. That's bad for the people asking questions AND for the people answering questions. I've moderated content before, I have an appreciation for how much of a pain it is and don't have a problem with waiting even a day or two.
If part of your question got lost, you could always have edited it to get the rest of the info in. However, the important thing is that you now have a complete question and, with luck, somebody will know the answer. Alas, I have no direct experience with this kind of issue, but I'm hoping to learn something here along with you.
That's what I did. I just left the comment there so any moderators who looked would know why it got edited. And yeah, this is... a little weird. There are guides for setting up Fedora 25 to dual boot with windows where using the preexisting EFP as /boot/efi works fine, and I did a ton of googling and couldn't find anything.
I'm not really experienced enough to just install it without a bootloader and try to fix that myself, either. Not without clear instructions, anyways. Normally I'd try anyways but I've been working on other stuff on my PC since Thursday and am out of steam.
