Hi,

I installed the Fedora 25 LXDE 64bit and did the update just now. My Firefox has a problem that it CANNOT play YAHOO videos. But it can play YouTube videos very well.

For example https://www.yahoo.com/tv/making-queen-sugar-142121945.html, the video frame shows "Something Went Wrong Unfortunately, an error occurred. To try again, refresh your browser." But it didn't work after refresh.

Anyone can help ?

Link works in my firefox, so I think something to do with extensions or video codecs. I do have flash player installed, and also VLC media player, for firefox.

Doesn't work here either, with FF 53.0.2 and Xfce. However Youtoob works.

OK, that means it's not at yahoo's end.

If you have not installed the package ffmpeg yet, I suggest that you do so. This package is available from https://rpmfusion.org/Configuration .

First download and install the rpm: RPM Fusion free for Fedora 25. Assuming you downloaded the rpm into the Downloads directory install it by this command.

dnf install Downloads/rpmfusion-free-release-25.noarch

After that

dnf install ffmpeg

If this doesn't help, there most be some other problem, for example network or firewall issues, as the example web site works for me.

https://www.youtube.com/html5 is a test page for supported video formats.

his post said the problem was with yahoo, not youtube. as i stated, youtube has gone to using html5 to get away from flash.

The youtube site shows which video format is or isn't supported. And if it show 7 blue check marks, chances are high that the browser will play yahoo as well as youtube videos using htlm5.

interesting, but the OP has not responded, since posting, so either the yahoo started working, or they have chosen to just let the topic die.

In the "about:config" when I disable ffmpeg, then the yahoo video reports an error as stated by the OP. When I enable ffmpeg again, the yahoo video works again.

Sorry for late because I never got the email notifications from this forum. As I commented to my original post, the Yahoo site started working after I upgrade firefox to 53.0.3 and even work in firefox 53.0.2 (downgrade firefox). And yes, the about:config says ffmpeg is enabled. However https://www.youtube.com/html5 reports red in "H.264" and "MSE & H.264". I didn't do the steps to install ffmpeg as villykruse posted, and I don't know whether ffmpeg was there and enabled in my firefox when I post this problem.
