Hello, I'm new to fedora and linux. I'm having trouble installing fedora. I'm using the Fedora-17-i386-DVD.iso distribution

I've just proceeded with the basic installation and selected all the defaults, and mounting the iso file when starting the application.

Getting this error message:

ERROR: could not insert 'floppy': no such device
Loading Fedora 17 i686
install rpcbind terminating on signal. Restart with "rpcbind -w"

Additionally, fedora doesn't seen boot. I've looked at this">thread, but still having issues. FedoraForum thread

Specs: Installing Fedora 17 on Windows 7 VirtualBox (latest versions)

Thanks in advance.

I did a "yum search floppy" in an urelated problem and among the results it was:

vdsm-hook-floppy.noarch : Allow adding floppy to VM

It does not says which VM ... hope it helps.

If you're still having this problem, try messing around with the settings menu. I ran into the same thing today and stumbled across this unanswered question in my quest for an answer.

Try any/all of the following (I shotgun-approached this, so some/all of these made it work for me):

  • System>Processor>2 CPUs
  • Display>Video>Enable 3D acceleration, and increase to 64MB
  • Storage>Controller:SATA - Check Use host I/O cache

Good luck
