Unable to open terminal

I am unable to open terminal in my Xfce session. If I click on System>Xfce Terminal nothing happens. If I go Run>Xfce4-Terminal nothing happens. If I right click anywhere and click Open Terminal Here it says "Failed to execute default Terminal Emulator Input/output error"

I am however able to use Ctrl+Alt+F# to access a terminal.

Any ideas on how to be able to access the terminal inside my X session because it is really annoying to have to Ctrl+Alt+F# to switch between X and Terminal.

Check your default application settings, and see what terminal software is trying to be run. I use Cinammon as my DE so I do not know what terminal software Xfce wants to use.

Happened to me once. I re-installed the terminal and it worked. Otherwise try install another terminal.

When you use Ctrl-Alt-F#, you're not accessing a terminal in a GUI, you're opening up a CLI console, which is what an xterm emulates. As you're using Xfce, the program you need is xfce4-terminal. Use dnf to install it (or reinstall it if you're told that it's already installed) and you should be good to go.

Installing Konsole did the trick. Tried to run Xfce4-Terminal from inside Konsole and got the following error:
xfce4-terminal: error while loading shared libraries: /lib64/ file too short
I have a working console now so it's not that important but but out of curiosity how would I fix that?

That library is provided by gnutils. Reinstall it and see if that's what's needed.
