I have made a bootable pendrive for fedora17 using Unetbootin.

Then i restarted my machine, selected my pendrive form the list of booting devices. The fedora selection screen appeared. From there i chose Install or upgrade an existing system.

Soon after that i encountered an error regarding some cache write through error.

Please could you help me?

The detailed error is:-

Some Floppy unavailability error (couldn't note it)

1)copy original to backup

2) copy backup to original

3) no action ?

(no matter what i enter there the following results come)

leaving filesystem unchanged
/dev/sdb1 : 3456 file, 969710/981925 clusters
dracut warning : fsck returned with 1
dracut warning : /sysroot has no proper rootfs layout, ignoring and remoing offending mout hook.

can't mount root file system
dropping to debug shell
dracut:# (kept blinking here for some time)

Asking for cache data failed
assuming drive cache: write through.

then it repeats the above two lines and nothing else happens.

To create a installation USB disk from the DVD installation iso (not the Live version).

yum install livecd-tools
livecd-iso-to-disk --reset-mbr /path_to_iso/Fedora-17-x86_64-DVD.iso /dev/sde1

Where sde1 is the USB partition.

That partition must be bootable and the pendrive unmounted.

With this procedure I installed my system without any problem.

Windows only... and only for LiveCD images:

Reinstall Grub 2 in Fedora 17

Grub 2 is the latest version of Grub.

If you have installed Fedora 17 but some how grub got messed up and you are unable to boot in to Fedora 17 then follow these steps to Restore or Reinstall Grub 2 in Fedora 17.

  • Step 1

Boot from the Fedora 17 DVD or Live CD or may be you used USB to install Feodra 17, use any method just boot using any fedora 17 media.

  • Step 2

Select Troubleshoot from the boot menu and then select "Rescue installed system"

  • Step 3

When in Terminal execute these commands.

chroot /mnt/sysimage
grub2-install /dev/sda
grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

note : remember change sda with your proper configuration use sudo fdisk -l command in terminal to verify.

Now reboot your pc and Fedora 17 should boot. Remember this will replace your existing bootloader, but you can always add more entries in Grub.

Blockquote create a fedora 17 usb stick in windows 7 use YUMI โ€“ Multiboot USB Creator (Windows) -> http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/

That seemed to do the job.

Now i tried installing and everything was going good.
In the partitioning part I choose "Create Custom Layout"
In the install target devices I choose my Hard Disk
The three partitions that I made were ->
1>/boot ext4 4096 MB
2>/ ext 4 32 GB
3>swap 4096 MB

Then the partitions were created and formatted.
Now the problem arises. A dialogue box appears where they ask to configure the Netwrok manager. There are two options availabe
1>my ethernet card
2>my Wlan No matter which option i chose after some time an error box appears:-
" an error occured trying to bring up the wlan0 network interface" or "an error occured trying to bring up the em1 network interface"

Then when I click on cancel on the network manager window i get the notification:-
" Some of your software repositories require networking, but there was an error enabling the network on your system" and then i have no other option other than to click on the "Exit Installer"

I have downloaded the Fedora 17 from this link:-
http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/17/Fedora/i386/iso/Fedora-17-i386-DVD.iso

Please could you help me out and point out if i am doing anything wrong.
