That's due to a bug in version 0.98(december 2016), /pitivi/pitivi/;
It was fixed in latest commits, but I didn't manage to install it anyway. Build system installs only language files, doesn't copy python modules to the system dirs.

Meson build system is not documented, man meson doesn't explain any options besides 'version' and 'help'.
It generates Ninja low level build subdirectory 'mesonbuild' . Rules in file in 'mesonbuild' refer back to Meson '.dat' files..

Program gst-validate-launcher can't be found in any packages. It probably should reside in gstreamer-tools package, or some other compiled from gst-validate.

It's broken.(by design or something)

The only working installation method for Pitivi now is to use flatpak package system(container that recreates required runtime environment):

flatpak install --user

flatpak run org.pitivi.Pitivi

Do you have the GStreamer plugins installed? If not enable rpmfusion, and get the gstreamer stuff. This page may help to find out what exactly is missing.
