I know this is common but it feels uncommon given my current situation. I was using Fedora 25 with i3 and suddenly while in Firefox the backspace stops working everywhere. In the background I was trying to upgrade Fedora packages but that even gracefully failed due to lack of disk space.

In the meantime I have tried many, many things. Freed disk space, upgraded packages, rebooted, tried Gnome, tried other apps, emacs included to no avail.

Tried capturing the key code with xev but still nothing. It's as if the key does not exist. It seems like it's something pretty fundamental. Usually I would say that the problem is the physical keyboard key but i tried it in another PC and it's working. What could it be?

Edit: I have tested this in grub for example. If in grub I enter a command prompt the key doesn't even work there anymore.
