Cannot Login To GNOME (X-Wayland) at Greeter '25
At the greeter there are three available desktop environments to choose from. These are:
GNOME (X-Wayland), GNOME Classic, GNOME on Xorg
I have been using the last one daily. Since I have been getting a lot of system crashes, I decided to try GNOME (X-Wayland) again to see if these would diminish; however the arrow cursor locked-up immediately and the desktop would not load even after 5 min.
I have the following kernels:
4.9.14-200.fc25.x8664, 4.9.13-201.fc25.x8664, Fedora (Rescue)
None of these would load GNOME (X-Wayland) and Fedora (Rescue) stated "You are in emergency mode" and would not start X.
Do you have any proprietary drivers installed? Try to hit ctrl + alt + f4 as you will see the greeter. Login as user and examine your Xorg log file:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep EE
