F16, Gnome 3 quest
Upgraded from FC 15 to 16 on a lap top utilizing ATI Radeon HD 4650 graphics card. I was using the Catalyst driver on 15 and gnome 3 was working well. With F16 there appears to be no native driver support yet. The distribution drivers do not seem to work because I keep getting placed into gnome fallback mode (lack of 3D acceleration?).
I understand that there is a "F17 gnome-shell for everyone" project on rawhide. I would like to try this to get my desktop working again. I have executed the following to load the appropriate packages:
yum install fedora-release-rawhide
yum update --enablerepo=rawhide mesa-* cogl gnome-session
Here's where I am confused. I expected that rebooting would load the new libraries as part of my installation. But this is not the case. Gnome desktop is still at version 3.2.1 (should be 3.3.1). Still placed in fallback mode.
I am new to using rawhide, so I am wondering what I am missing to get these packages to activate. Moreover, I am nervous about having potentially upset my F16 installation, which works great, sans gnome 3 functionality. So I would also like to know how I can remove the rawhide packages and replace these with the original distribution equivalents should this experiment not work out.
Thanks.
