LASH Panel / dnf repoquery --whatrequires

asked 2017-02-06 15:07:42 -0600

I just noticed a menu item called LASH Panel, upon clicking this nothing happens. I only found an old bug report from 2009 [] mentioning this but it seems to have something to do with VLC.

I tried uninstalling lash, and dnf warned that then also VLC amongst a bunch of packages was also going to be removed. So I was mostly wondering, is there anything wrong? Should I open a new bug report on this?

Another question is that I tried to find packages depending on lash by 'sudo dnf repoquery --installed --disableexcludes=all --whatrequires lash' and it returned nothing, even though other packages would get erased when removing it. Have I misunderstood the command, why didn't VLC show up here?

You should be able to just use 'sudo dnf remove lash'

When you get the confirmation to remove it you'll get a list of which packages will be removed with it that are no longer needed. I've never had a second package broken this way without a warning. I highly doubt that vlc is dependent on it since lash is installed by default and vlc is not. I can't even remember what lash is but I always remove the the bloatware after a clean install. I'm not suggesting that lash is actual bloatware, but to me if I'll never use it then it's bloat.
