Open Source Driver for ATI Radeon - fan/battery problems

I'm very new to Linux/Fedora, and I seem to have problems with the open source version of the ATI Radeon Driver - after a minute or two of using the laptop (web browsing etc) the fan goes nuts, and I can only get about an hour out of a fully charged battery.

When I have previously used Ubuntu, I can get 2 hours plus, and there are no fan issues.

Is there a way I can fix the problem?

Thanks :-)

The closed source driver is available on the Ubuntu repo, so you probably had that installed when you were using ubuntu. The proprietary driver is available on the ati/amd site. So head over there and download the driver for your card.

Installation is very simple. chmod +x the installer file and execute it and follow the instructions.

In case it doesn't work like you expected, execute /usr/share/ati/ to remove the proprietary driver and return your xorg configuration to the original
