Fedora Server 24 or 25 to workstation

asked 2017-01-23 13:35:58 -0600

I'd like to use Fedora Server to install the OS under VMware Fusion because it is the only Fedora image that supports integration with the "Easy Install" -- making installation a breeze.

It seems a few simple steps would then allow me to convert the Server installation to a Workstation:

I ran:

dnf -y -b group install workstation-product-environment development-tools
systemctl set-default graphical.target

Then rebooted. The login is now graphical, but when I type the user account password and hit ENTER... it seems to hang attempting... something. If I hit Cancel and redo the login, it then proceeds just fine.

My question is really around what is going here with the graphical login that it doesn't seem to want to "take" my password the first time around? Is this a bug? Or is what I'm attempting even supported? (Am I following the correct procedure to convert the Server installation to a Workstation?).

Thanks in advance!

try to enable gdm too please and check what happens:

sudo systemctl enable gdm

Three things: it seems that it doesn't matter if systemctl set-default graphical.target is run or not; Also, sudo systemctl enable gdm doesn't fix the issue. Finally, I noticed that after a "Software Update" this seemed to go away. However, I blew away that VM, created a fresh, and even after initial "Software Update" on that -- the issue persists. It almost seems like some sort of configuration issue?
