How do I run Sugar in Fedora 16?

I followed the steps from this Sugarlabs wiki link to build sugar in my Fedora 16 box. Till the build stage everything was successful but when I try to run sugar-emulator with the command -

# ./sugar-jhbuild run sugar-emulator

The screen start where I can input my name, goes to next windows to choose the color. The moment I click the next button in that sugar-emulator window it crashes giving the following error -

Window manager warning: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on display ':30'.

Any thing I am missing ? Please help.

P.S : I am running GNOME3 Desktop Environment. I don't want a separate Desktop Environment, I need my sugar to run on a application window in Gnome3 desktop.

what is your sugar-emulator version?

I am not not in front of my box now, but I directly cloned it from Github, so it should be the latest.

Finally I could solve it. There was a problem with the Gconf-dbus. This are the below steps I followed -

# ./sugar-jhbuild cleanone Gconf-dbus
# ./sugar-jhbuild updateone GConf-dbus
# ./sugar-jhbuild buildone GConf-dbus

After this three commands try running the emulator with screen specifications as you like

# ./sugar-jhbuild run sugar-emulator -i 1200x900

It was successfully starting the sugar-emulator and I could use the Sugar Desktop in a window from by Gnome3 Desktop. Thanks all for helping with their suggestions !!

Hi, if you don't really need to build it by yourself, I recommend you to install the soas spin (yum groupinstall "Sugar Desktop Environment").

Consider asking on the soas@lists.sugarlabs.org mailing list.

By installing Sugar Desktop Environment from yum, can I work on a Window having Sugar present in my Gnome3 Desktop Environment, or will it give me another desktop environment other than Gnome3.

If its a separate desktop environment like Gnome 3 for which I have to log off from Gnome 3 and start it, then I don't need that, I want Sugar to run in a Window in my Gnome3 Desktop.

@SoumyaC, you'll run the Sugar Desktop Environment. I would suggest then to install Soas in a virt guest.

@shaiton : That's an option , but I was wondering why it would fail to run with this error, I rather want to debug this problem if possible rather than going by workaround. I have previously build and installed Sugar and ran the sugar-emulator in fedora 13. It ran super fine without issues.

My understanding is sugar is a desktop environment, not something you run within gnome

If I remember correctly from sugar-jhbuild, if you run sugar emulator its starts on your Gnome3 desktop. So Sugar basically runs in a application window, not a separate Desktop Environment. Its like Virtualbox, if it helps you understand what I really mean.
