Well first, when you have a chance update that machine since Fedora Core 6 is obsolete. What you need to do is to reboot the machine and on the list of kernels press E key so it will open edit screen there you should go to the line that say linux and add the word single at the end, then on that screen should be instructions on how to boot with that modification when boot you will login in single mode there you can change the root password.
